Storm makes swath through town

6/25/2009

A severe storm that made its way in the area early Thursday morning, June 18, took a toll, but not as severely as it did in Smithshire, Kirkwood, Monmouth and Galesburg.

Described as a straight line storm packing rain and 80 mph winds power poles, power lines and trees were felled in the heavy  downpour and power outages that prevailed in the surrounding area.

In Roseville, a huge limb from a large tree on the North Main St. property of Carroll Henderson was knocked down. Ameren personnel were on the scene to clean up the mess, damage was minimal compared to surrounding towns and villages. A general clean-up order was in effect in the heavily damaged areas of Kirkwood, Monmouth, Galesburg and smaller communities.

Roseville was also spared on Thursday evening when heavy rain and high winds barreled through the village.

Fortunately no injuries were reported in either case. Forecasters warned residents of the possibility of similar conditions occurring in the area over the next three or four days.
