Bruce Morath new chief deputy
10/8/2009
Bruce Morath has been named chief deputy of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, effective, Oct. 1. He replaces Jeff Spencer, who has retired. Law enforcement runs in his family. His father was an auxiliary officer and Morath always thought a career in law enforcement was in his future. “I got to see and hear a lot of things the police were involved in,” he said. “I liked the idea of getting into law enforcement and thought it would be a good career to get into. I know my dad was proud of me when I came to the sheriff’s office.” Morath- who is originally from Roseville, now makes his home in Monmouth with his wife Pam. He had always had an interest in another line of work he considered turning into a career: photography. “It’s what I used to be really interested in,” Morath, 50, said. “I used to work with dark room photos and still do some. I really like sports photography and I do some photography for friends and family.” Morath worked at the Daily Review Atlas from 1979 to 1986 as a photographer. During that time, he has a good working relationship with Sheriff Terry Hart. “Hart approached me for an opening they had and I started out as a corrections officer,” Morath said. He worked that job for three and a half years and was sent to a Police Training Institute to become a road deputy. After two years on the road, Morath started the D.A.R.E. program in January 1992 for schools in Henderson and Warren counties as well as Monmouth Hi8gh School. Morath currently runs the drug prevention program for United High School. As chief deputy, he will take on the responsibilities of scheduling, payroll, supplies and personel matters, as well as reviewing and conducting follow-ups. Taking care of some administrative duties will also be a priority for Morath. For example, the sheriff’s office recently put in a new security system. “The new system is great,” commented Morath. “We’re always looking for new equipment and looking at grants to modernize the office.
