Paul Lambert Pennington

Paul Lambert Pennington, 95, Galesburg, formerly of Macomb, died at 1:35 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.

He was born Nov. 12, 1911, in Scotland Township, the son of Lambert Lorenzo and Susie (Leighty) Pennington. He married Mary Ellen Martin on June 25, 1939, in Canton, Mo. She preceded him in death Aug. 22, 1987.

He is survived by one son, Thomas Kirk Pennington, Colchester; one daughter, Ann Kristine Pennington, Galesburg; five grandchildren, Susan, Thomas, Daniel, Michael and Lance Pennington; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Bradley Paul Pennington, and three brothers, Roscoe, Lewis and Harold Pennington.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and saw action in the Pacific Theater, including Saipan, New Guinea and Japan.

He attended Western Illinois University for three years. He worked for Purdum Electric for several years and out of Local 184 in Galesburg. He served as the Macomb City Building Inspector from 1967-1968 and also was the Macomb City Tax Assessor from 1970-1974.

He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and attended Wesley United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, Macomb, with the Rev. Russell Smith officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery with military rites.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home.
