Mary Susan Locke
KNOXVILLE-Mary Susan Locke, 86, died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at her home.
She was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Kewanee, the daughter of Joseph and Febronia (Van Wynesberg) Slock. They preceded her in death while she was just a young girl. She married Lawrence A. Locke Sept. 23, 1939, in Memphis, Mo. He preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1985.
She is survived by three daughters, Jeannie (John) Howard, Dahinda, Rita Hatch, Rio Hondo, Texas, and Dixie Olsen, Waterbury, Neb.; four sons, Clay (Kimberly) Locke, Victoria, Steve (Deanna) Lock, London Mills, John Locke, Fort Myers, Fla., and Martin Larry Locke, Canon City, Colo.; twin granddaughters that she reared as her own, Melissa (Dan) Stevenson, DuQuoin and Melinda Lock, Galesburg; one sister, Elaine Heath, Valley, Ala.; two brothers, Richard (Marzetta) Slock, Manlus, and Frank Slock, Rock Island; 20 additional grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephew.
Mary and Lawrence farmed in the Cambridge area before moving to Knox County in 1967 where they continued to farm and rear their family. Mary was a devoted mother and farm wife.
She worked at the Knox County Nursing Home for a number of years.
She was well known for her baking.
A private family celebration of life has already taken place. Cremation rites have been accorded by Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville.
