Larry D. Worrell
Larry D. Worrell, 78, of Quincy, formerly of Carthage, passed away at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009.
Larry was born April 1, 1931, in Colchester, the son of William Henry and Helen (Hainline) Worrell, who were living in Table Grove.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Lorraine Worrell, Quincy; one daughter, Alicia Worrell Alred, Carthage; one grandson, Ryan Edmon (Brandi) Alred, Carthage; three great-granddaughters, Destiny, Karlee and Ryan Alred; two sisters, Bertie (Luther) Wright, Niland, Calif. and Betty (Gene) Buxman, Quincy; a brother-in-law, Howard (Virginia) Kerfoot, LaHarpe; two nephews raised by Larry and Mary, Rex Kerfoot, San Antonio, Texas and Kip Kerfoot, Jupiter Island, Fla.; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Shawn Worrell in 1999; a sister-in-law, Llewellyn Thompson and a brother-in-law, Brad Kerfoot.
He was a graduate of LaHarpe High School. Larry was a four-year veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. On March 7, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Lorraine Kerfoot in Kahoka, Mo. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage and a 20-year member of the Burnside Christian Church serving as Sunday School superintendent and on the board, the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts in Carthage, the NRA and Carthage Gun Club. He was a member of AARP, RSVP and the Worthen Earth Searchers geology group. He enjoyed animals, especially his horses and mules, hunting, flea markets, spending time with his family and traveling.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation will be held from 3 - 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 at Printy Funeral Home, Carthage.
A memorial fund has been established for Larry's great-granddaughters.
