Elsie Faye Sereg, age 79, of Albia, Iowa, died Aug. 31, 2000 just outside of Mount Pleasant, Iowa from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born Jan. 23, 1921 in Monroe County, Iowa the daughter of William Thurman and Mary Rose Nedderman Locke. She married George Sereg on May 17, 1940 in Sigourney, Iowa. He died Aug. 31, 2000 in the same automobile accident.

Survivors include one son, Ron Sereg, Thibodaux, La.; four daughters, Helen Sinclair, Melrose, Iowa, Karen Yocum, Abingdon, Ill.; Betty Randerson, Columbia, Mo.; and Patty Hageman, Mount Vernon, N.H.; two brothers, George Locke, Ottumwa, Iowa.; Harold Locke, Rock Island, Ill.; one sister, Hazelle Chapman, Albia, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, one infant daughter, Mary Rose Sereg, one brother, Walter Locke, three sisters; Thelma Bates, Ama Fox, and Edythe Monk.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, and a member of the St. Mary's Altar & Rosary Society.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, 2000 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Albia, Iowa with Rev. William Walter officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Albia, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Jim Sinclair, Mike Young, Mike Ermler, Mike McCaffrey, Alex Hageman, Dan Randerson.

Memorials may be made to the Monroe County Nursing Homes Activity Fund.

Winfield Funeral Home, Albia, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.
