Cpl. Joshua Douglas Palmer, 24, rural Blandinsville, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004 near Fallujah, Iraq where he was serving with the U.S. Marine Corps, Engineer Company C.

He was born July 7, 1980, in Carthage, the son of Doug and Carol Hasten Palmer.

He is survived by his parents, rural Blandinsville; one sister, Amanda Palmer, Fountain Green; his grandparents, Barb and Rex Stewart, La Harpe, and Hollis Palmer and Donna Burnett, Burlington, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl Junior and Mabel Hasten.

He attended grade school in La Harpe and graduated from La Harpe High School in 1999. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1999 and served until 2003. On June 30, 2004, he re-enlisted in the USMC Reserves and was serving with the Engineer Company C, based in Peoria. His unit was deployed to Iraq in September. He loved his family, motorcycles and working with his hands. He attended the Abundant Life Church, LaHarpe.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 at the La Harpe High School Gymnasium with Pastors Greg Pratt and Don Miller officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will be in the McConnell Cemetery, rural LaHarpe. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at the Abundant Life Church, LaHarpe where the family will meet with friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions will be used to establish a fund, in his memory, to be used for various needs in La Harpe and surrounding communities. Banks & Beals Funeral Home, La Harpe is in charge of arrangements.
