Mary Ellen Ferguson
Mary Ellen Ferguson, 86, Fitchburg, Wis., formerly of Macomb, died at 4:45 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, in Fitchburg, Wis. She was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Camp Point, the daughter of John Henry and Edith (Bowen) Harwood. She married Robert Lee Ferguson Aug. 16, 1941, in Liberty. He preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1991.
She is survived by three sons, Robert (Karen) Ferguson, Cary, N.C., Gerald Ferguson, Dublin, Ohio, and Alan Helen) Ferguson, Peoria; two daughters, Shirlee (Gary) Keithley, Brimfield, and Mary Edith Ferguson, Fitchburg, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Harwood, and one sister, Lucille Harwood Thorton.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Macomb and was a deacon, and elder. She also served as chairman of the board and church building committee chair. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, chairman of the McDonough County Heart Association and served on the Illinois Heart Association Board of Directors. She was a member of the Faculty Wives of Western Illinois University, and was always active in the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and McDonough County United Way. She was also known as a professional grandmother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Steven Workman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program or the charity of the donors choice.
