Perle M. Grate
Perle M. Grate, 93, Blandinsville, died at 3:08 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg. He was born March 24, 1915, in Hire Township, McDonough County, the son of Clyde and Lura (Foster) Grate. He married Eleanor Alleyne Zimmerman on Sept. 27, 1940, in Dyersburg, Tenn. She preceded him in death Dec. 1, 1991. He is survived by one son, Roger Grate, Blandinsville; one daughter, Rita Larson, Mapleton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was also preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Grate, one brother-in-law, James Larson, and two brothers, Lyle and Vernon Grate. He lived most of his life in the Blandinsville area where he operated Grate Sales and Service for 50 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Old Bedford Christian Church and served on the Blandinsville School Board, Blandinsville Town Board and the Blandinsville Township Board. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home, Blandinsville, with the Rev. Dean Reeverts officiating. Burial was in Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville. Memorials may be made to the Blandinsville Senior Citizens Center, Blandinsville Fire and Rescue, Blandinsville Park District or the American Heart Association.
