Shirley M. Hilliard, 83, Avon, formerly of Bushnell, died at 9:20 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg.

She was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Liverpool, N.Y., the daughter of Arthur and Pearl (Hubbard) Filmore.

She married Edwin A. Hilliard on Feb. 25, 1945, in St. Louis, Mo. He preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1981.

She is survived by six sons, Lewis A. Whisenhunt, North Carolina, Arthur C. Whisenhunt, Cottonwood, Ariz., Merville (Carol Ann) Hilliard, Bushnell, Dennis A. Hilliard, Dallas City, David L. (Diana) Hilliard, Vermont, and Richard L. Hilliard, Bushnell; two daughters, Phylis (Steve) Kreps, Avon, and Sandra M. (Harold) Wulf, Madison, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Hubbard, Kahului, Hawaii.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, one son, one daughter and one grandson.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Burial of ashes will be held at a later date.

Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell, is in charge of arrangements.
