Opal M. (McCormick) Phillips
Opal M. (McCormick) Phillips, 80, Marietta, died at 9:20 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Vermont, the daughter of Ralph and Fern (Derry) McCormick.
She married Russell L. Phillips on Nov. 24, 1951, in Quincy. He preceded her in death Jan. 21, 2000.
She is survived by one son, John H. Phillips, Prairie City; two daughters, Marjorie (Terry) Warner, Galesburg, and Molly Van Pelt, Aurora; two brothers, Dorvan McCormick, Astoria, and Charles McCormick, Green Rock; five sisters, Margaret Hopping, Industry, Josephine James, Macomb, Virginia Macombs, Astoria, Bernice Sharpe, Cuba, and Shirley Wicroce, Akron, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Barry Van Pelt, five brothers and two sisters.
Opal was an independent woman who loved the outdoors and had quit the green thumb, she loved to garden. She also enjoyed to crochet and visit with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell, with Pastor Robbie Johnson officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donorís choice.
