William L. Cassidy
William L. Cassidy, 85, Table Grove, died at 12:35 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. He was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Table Grove, the son of Lee and Geraldine (Baily) Cassidy. He married Mary Ogilvie on June 8, 1947, in Beardstown. They divorced. He is survived by one son, Jim (Cindy) Cassidy, Table Grove; one daughter, Ann (Darrell) Patridge, Table Grove; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Leslie Ann Cassidy, and one brother, Thomas Cassidy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II from 1943 to 1946, serving as a staff sergeant in the 4168th Quartermaster Depot Company in charge of 175 military personnel and civilians guarding the quartermaster supply installation in the Philippines. He was a cattle feeder his entire life. He was also an avid horseman and lover of all animals. He was a member of the Table Grove American Legion Post 4123, where he was a past commander; Table Grove Community Church, Vermont Masonic Lodge 116, director of the Table Grove State Bank, was a past member of the VIT school board and the Mid-Century Telephone Board, Phi Delta Theta Sorority of Knox College, McDonough County Historical Society and was considered a local historian and genealogist. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at Table Grove Community Church with Pastor Rob Harrison officiating. Burial was in Harris Cemetery, Table Grove, with military rites conducted by the Table Grove American Legion Post 413. Memorials may be made to Table Grove American Legion Post 413 or Table Grove Rescue Squad. Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria, was in charge of arrangements.
