Martha Bly, 82, Macomb, died at 7:35 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at The Elms Nursing Home, Macomb.
She was born March 31, 1926, in Birmingham, the daughter of Warnie and Ida (Reed) Frakes.
She married Russell Bly on March 2, 1946, in Macomb. He preceded her in death Oct. 1, 2001.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann (Gene) Connor, Macomb; two granddaughters, Trish (Steve) Horrell and Amber (Chris) DiNardi; nine great-grandchildren, Tanner, Sydni, Chandler and Murphy Horrell, and Presley, Connor, Madyson, Boston and Georgie DiNardi; one brother, Ervin Frakes, Arizona; three sisters, Norma Porter, Colchester, Florence Shippy, Macomb, and Lola Mae Elliott, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rex and George Frakes, and one sister, Ellen Davis.
She worked many years as a cook for several restaurants in the area, including the Fill-up Inn, the Kings Inn, the Sideliner, the Frontier Club, Damones and the North Side Café. She was noted for her soups and bread pudding. Known as “Marty” by those who loved her, she was young at heart until the time of her death. She was a benevolent soul who always put the welfare of others ahead of her own. As an avid shopper, she enjoyed providing gifts for her extended family and especially treating her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She was known by many and loved by all. She was the best.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, Macomb, with the Rev. Ron Green officiating.
Burial was in Stoneking Cemetery.
