Ruth S. (Speer) Kramer
AVON-Ruth S. Kramer, 96, Avon, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, in Avon Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 17, 1912, in Avon, the daughter of Don and Inez (Carpenter) Speer. She married John P. Kramer Nov. 15, 1945, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1994. She is survived by two sons, Bill (Elaine) Kramer, Avon, and Phil (Jean) Kramer, Avon; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter-in-law, Diane Kramer. Ruth was born and reared in rural Avon. She lived her entire life in the Avon area. She graduated from Avon High School in 1930, attended Knox College and graduated from Western Illinois Teachers College. She taught school at Pleasant Hill School in rural Avon and later worked at Tompkins State Bank. She was a homemaker for the majority of her life. She loved to garden. She was a member of Hypatian Club, the Warren County Homemakers, Avon United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Greenbush Card Club. Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, in Avon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Trish Chapman officiating. Burial was in Bond Cemetery, Greenbush. Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Trent, Jamie, John, Jeff, Steve and Matt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to A.V.C.O.M Park or Avon United Methodist Church. Corman Memorial Home, Avon, was in charge of arrangements. |
