Darrel L. Ashley
ABINGDON-Darrel L. “Ash’’ Ashley, 72, Abingdon, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, in the Care Center of Abingdon. Darrel died as the result of a head injury when he accidentally fell.
He was born April 8, 1936, in Beardstown, the son of Edward and Pauline (Icenogle) Ashley. He married Bonnie Morss and later married Bonnie Sorrells.
Darrel is survived by his daughter, Kyle (Douglas) Martin, Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jessica (Nicholas) Corthier, Indianapolis, Ind., and Trevor Martin, Bloomington, Ind.; one brother, Larry (Della) Ashley, Abingdon; one sister, Janet (Tom) Prior, London Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated from Abingdon High School.
He worked at the Abingdon Pottery for 44 years, retiring in 1998. He was a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and often reminded his Cub friends of the number of championships that the Cardinals had won. Darrel also enjoyed following boys' and girls' sports at the Abingdon Schools.
He enjoyed helping people and visiting friends at the Care Center of Abingdon. Thank you, Abingdon, for being his friend.
Cremation was accorded. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, in the Abingdon Christian Church.
