Waif R. Johnson
GALESBURG-Waif R. Johnson, 83, Galesburg, formerly of Abingdon, died at 4:21 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born May 14, 1925, in Ripley County, Missouri, the son of Fred and Bertha (Ross) Galesburg. He married Ora Mae Cartee June 9, 1952, in Pocahontas, Ark. She survives. Waif is also survived by his children, Jerry Johnson of Arizona, Terry Johnson, Galesburg, and Vanessa (Ed) Cassiday, Galesburg; four grandchildren; and one brother, Gene Johnson of Abingdon. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers. He attended schools in Missouri. He had worked at the Pekin Hardwood Lumber Company in Springfield and later at the Abingdon Pottery for 33 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the United Freewill Baptist Church in West Plaines, Mo. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening. Services were held Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, in the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with the Rev. Danny Hunt officiating. Burial was in Abingdon Cemetery.
