George M. Roberts
GALESBURG-George M. Roberts, 84, Galesburg, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born March 10, 1924, in Abingdon, the son of John M. and Bertha L. (Morris) Roberts. He married Maudie I. Morss in Kahoka, Mo., March 20, 1943. She survives.
He is also survived by a son, George LeRoy (Pam) Roberts, Abingdon; three daughters, Sandra Kay (Gene) Watkins, Columbia Heights, East Galesburg, Carol (Kenny) Dixon, Wataga, and Sharon (Charles) Kinzer, Galesburg; two brothers, C. Raymond (Bea) Roberts and Ivan L. (Deanie) Roberts, both of Knoxville; one sister, Vivian M. (Lester) Combs, Maquon; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He worked as a sprayer for the Abingdon Pottery for 32 years. He retired in 1986. He enjoyed traveling throughout the country.
He also enjoyed fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle.
Private family graveside services will be held later in Abingdon Cemetery. Cremation was accorded.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Disease Association or the American Cancer Society.
