GALESBURG-Glen McVay, 72, Galesburg, died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born July 2, 1936, in Macomb, the son of Henry and Irene (Weir) McVay. He married Geraldine “Gerry’’ Starr Oct. 4, 1963, in Lewistown. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Michael and Jeffrey McVay, both of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; one stepson, Mark Clayton, Galesburg; one stepdaughter, Jody and David Sutton, Abingdon; one sister, Maryellen and Don Haynes, St. Augustine; one grandson, Wayne Michael and Diane Sutton, Abingdon; his poodle, Peanuts; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul McVay.
He graduated from Avon High School.
He worked for the former Midwest Manufacturing/Admiral Corp. and was a rural letter carrier for 30 years, retiring from Admirals in 1989 and 2006 as a letter carrier. He was a member of the I.A.M.A. Local 2069, was past president of the Illinois Rural Letter Carriers Association and a life member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962.
Private family graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Thomas Ek officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association wing at Marigold Health Care Center.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
