Beryl Sickles

CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla.-Beryl M. Sickles, 85, Citrus Springs, Fla., died Friday, Jan 16, 2009, in the loving care of her family and health care personnel at the Health Center at Brentwood.

Beryl Sickles was born in Abingdon, Ill., Jan. 19, 1923, the daughter of Austin T. and Minnie (Harris) Meadows.

She left the farm life at 18 for more adventure. Beryl landed with a friend in Carlsbad, N.M., where she met, and later wed on Feb. 11, 1943, officer and gentleman, Fred Sickles, of the United States Air Force. After spending 25 years living and rearing their three children in Williston Park, N.Y., the Sickles retired to Citrus Springs, Fla., in 1973.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years; three children; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs where she was a reader, choir member and active volunteer. Beryl, also, helped to found the Citrus Springs Volunteer Fire Department and drove the ambulance for several years.

She was a bridge player extraordinaire. She was a perfectionist in her crafts, was a talented seamstress, beautiful singer, artist, ever-experimenting cook, nutrition buff and the world’s greatest baker of brownies.

Beryl was the matriarch of her family.

A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1401 County Club Blvd., Citrus Springs, FL 34434

Cremation was accorded.
