Kathleen Sorrells White
Kathleen Sorrells White, 81, Rushville, formerly of Bushnell and the Timewell area, died at 9:40 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital, Rushville. She was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Schuyler County, the daughter of Ethan and Irene (Hale) Sorrells. She married Leo White on Oct. 17, 1946, in Bushnell. He survives. She is also survived by four children, Raymond White (companion Julie Hood), Chattanooga, Tenn., Richard (Betty) White, Macomb, Roberta (Scott) Weaver, Macomb, and Russell (Carol) White, Browning; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lucille Roelle, Colorado, Barbara (Bud) Hensley, Forrest, and Glenda Reynolds, Isanti, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents. As a small child, her family moved to a farm in Warren County. She attended a country school there until she was a sophomore in high school. Her parents then moved to Fulton County where she graduated from Cuba High School in 1945. She was a farmer’s daughter who loved to be out helping her dad all the time. In 1945, she was writing to an Army soldier named Leo White. She had never met him and his parents were neighbors to her parents. When he was discharged, they started dating and were married soon after. She worked as an assembler for Motorola in Quincy and as a clerk at Roe’s Grocery in Mt. Sterling. She was a member of the Schuyler American Legion Post 4 Auxiliary and the Bushnell VFW 1422 Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, square dancing, country music and bingo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home, Rushville, with David Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery.
