Norma E. Andrews
ABINGDON-Norma E. Andrews, 86, Abingdon, died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, in the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born May 30, 1922, in Warren County, Ill., the daughter of Henry O. and Florence Mae (Bennett) Abel. She married Paul Pierce in 1946. She later married Donald F. Andrews in 1970 in Rushville. He survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Lynn Weaver, Canton; one son, Stanley Pierce, Altona; three granddaughters, Angela (Scott) Miller, Megan and Holly Pierce; two great-grandsons, Nathan and Caleb Miller; and one sister, Linda (Clinton) Hills, rural Galesburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Abel, one sister, Marilyn Rookaird, a daughter-in-law, Candi Pierce, and a nephew, Terry Dean Abel.
Norma had lived in the Abingdon area all of her life.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1940.
She was the former owner of the Maid-Rite in Abingdon and also later worked at the former Polandís Grocery Store and then the Abingdon Vet Clinic.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Abingdon and the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary.
Norma was an avid quilter and enjoyed attending quilt shows with her sister. She also enjoyed going to yard sales.
Services were held Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, in the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with Mrs. Eleanor Landon officiating.
Burial was in Abingdon Cemetery.
