John A. Murphy

MARIETTA-John A. Murphy, 48, Marietta, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

He was born April 8, 1960, in Canton, the son of Collins (Jack) and Alice C. (Roat) Murphy. He married Terri Turnquist Dec. 13, 1985.

He is survived by one daughter, Kate Murphy, Macomb; one son, Brett Murphy, Marietta; two brothers, Rodney (Pam) Murphy, Bushnell, and Locie (Billie) Murphy, Bushnell; five sisters, Cinda (Ed) Selby, Bushnell, Linda (Chris) Brinkmeyer, Mesa, Ariz., Julie Murphy Erfuni, Phoenix, Ariz., Nancy (Fred) Morgan, Beloit, Wis., and Tina (Rod) Thomas, Abingdon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jackie Lee Murphy.

One of the favorite family memories of John was his portrayal of Santa Claus at Christmas.

John graduated from Bushnell-Prairie City High School in 1978 and was a dedicated farmer all his life in Marietta. He enjoyed and participated in tractor pulling and mud-sling events with his tractor named Shake, Rattle & Roll.

He loved camping with his friends and family. He also served as road commissioner for Harris Township for the last eight years.

He supported the Marietta Point Pleasant Church.

He was a devoted father and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Services were held Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Point Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the education fund for Kate and Brett Murphy.

Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell, was in charge of arrangements.
