Dorothy P. Gardner

GALESBURG-Dorothy P. Gardner, 92, Galesburg, died at 9:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born July 25, 1916, in Fairview, the daughter of Henry E. and Inez (Clayberg) Finfrock. She married Richard Gardner Sept. 19, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death May 18, 1972.

She is survived by one daughter, Jeanne A. Wiskirchen, Galesburg; one son, Thomas L. (Kerry L.) Gardner, Twin Lakes, Wis.; four grandchildren, Justin (Leslie) Brown, DVM, Peoria, Oralea (Chris) Bagwell, Galesburg, Jason T. (Alicen) Gardner, Milwaukee, Wis., and Sara E. (Pat) Regan, Milwaukee, Wis.; and great-grandchildren, Mitchell Bagwell, Nolan Bagwell, Harly Bagwell, Braden Bagwell, Grace Brown, Gardner Brown, Belle Brown, Ivy Rose Brown and Emily Gardner.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Larry Dean in 1944, one sister, Louise Finfrock, one brother, Frank Finfrock, and one great-grandchild, Jackson Brown.

She was reared and educated in Canton, graduating from Canton High School in 1934. She worked for Blue Bell Globe in Canton and Abingdon for six years. She later worked in the Dietary Department at Galesburg Research Hospital for eight years, retiring Nov. 30, 1982.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.

She was a member of the Knox County Farm Bureau, Women of the Moose in Galesburg and Senior Women’s and Mixed Bowing Leagues at Northgate in Galesburg.

Services were held Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, with the Revs. Scott Grulke and Victor Justin Randel Jr. officiating.

Burial was in Knoxville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hope Institute for Children and Families in Springfield.
