Russell Z. Hardine
GALESBURG-Russell Z. Hardine, 88, Galesburg, died at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born May 13,1920, in Galesburg, the son of Kenneth L. and Jessie G. Hardine. He married Dorothy L. Dow Aug. 11, 1946, in Mandan, N.D. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Russell Stephen Hardine, Redmond, Wash., and Kenneth D. (Angie) Hardine, San Juan, Puerto Rico; one daughter, Rebecca L. (Mac) McCoy, St. Augustine; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, John W. Hardine, and one brother, Kenneth L. Hardine, Jr.
Russell was the Quality Control Manager at the former Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 32 years. He retired in 1983.
He graduated from Galesburg High School. He attended the University of Washington and graduated from the School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Mo.
Russell served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Master Sergeant and was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster.
He was a member of VFW Post 2257.
Russell enjoyed woodworking in his basement workshop, dancing, and caring for the rose bushes in his yard.
Private family graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, in Memorial Park Cemetery with Eleanor Landon officiating. Military rites were accorded by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FISH Food Pantry.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
