Leota J. Cafferty
GALESBURG-Leota J. Cafferty, 84, Galesburg, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in Seminary Manor. She was born June 11, 1924, in Bernadotte, the daughter of Grover and Willie (Greene) Martindale. She married Keith W. Cafferty July 18, 1949, in Kalamazoo, Mich. He preceded her in death March 8, 2005. She is survived by two daughters, Donna (Larry) Wherley, Frankfort, Ill., and JoDel (Ted) Nelson, Victoria; a stepdaughter, Vickie (Robert) Johnson, Peoria; five grandchildren; one brother, Glade Martindale, Smithfield; and a sister, Freda (Joe) Gallien, Lewistown. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. She graduated from Ipava High School in 1942. She had lived in Galesburg since 1974. Leota was a telephone operator for three years in Lewistown for Bell Telephone Company before becoming a homemaker. Leota was a former member of Knoxville Christian Church and was involved with numerous activities there. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Moose in Galesburg. Services were held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, in Abingdon Christian Church with the Rev. Jerald Hill officiating. Burial was in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.
