Francis L. 'Mac' McCoy
ST. AUGUSTINE-Francis L. “Mac’’ McCoy, 74, St. Augustine, died at 7:42 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at his home.
He was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Blue Jacket, Okla., the son of John and Addie (Waugh) McCoy. He married Rebecca L. Hardine June 14, 1975, in Versailles.
Mac is survived by his wife, Rebecca; his children, Sue Z. (Justin Frakes) Cameron, Avon, and Sara L. McCoy, Abingdon; his grandchildren, Zahren Cameron, Macenzye Cameron, Chevey Cameron, Brodye Frakes, Sydnye Bellinger and Clayton Bellinger. He is also survived by brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
He was an Army Veteran. He worked at the Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years, last working as a boom truck operator before his retirement.
He had lived in St. Augustine since 1979 and prior to that had lived in London Mills.
He was a volunteer fireman for the Abingdon Fire Protection District-St. Augustine Station. He also served on the St. Augustine Village Board.
Mac’s hobbies included gardening, hunting and fishing.
Cremation was accorded. A Celebration of Life Service was held Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in the Church of God of Prophecy Fellowship Center, with Mrs. Eleanor Landon and the Rev. Warren Cummins as speakers followed by a flag presentation by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel was in charge of announcements for the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Abingdon Food Pantry.
