Kenneth 'Kenny' Edward Garrett
PRAIRIE CITY-Kenneth "Kenny" Edward Garrett, 71, died at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 26, 2009, in the Prairie City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
He was born in rural route Piedmont, Mo., Nov. 10, 1937, the son of Clorel Martin and Delia Anna (Leach) Garrett. He married Virginia Ruth Lockwood March 19, 1955. She died April 2, 1994. He married Karen Thornton July 10, 1997. She survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Ed (Sherry) Garrett, Wichita Falls, Texas, Dave (Brenda) Garrett, Alvin, Texas, and Kenneth Ray (Mary Jane) Garrett, Bushnell; two stepsons, Kelly (Rose) Thornton, Brighton, Colo., and Russell (Angie) Thornton, Macomb; nine grandchildren, Matt and Justin Garrett of Texas, Tanya (Lynn) Wagner, Butler, Pa., Chad (Rachel) Garrett, Dixon, Kelly Garrett (Ben Joiner), Bushnell, Jennifer and Alex Thornton, Denver, Colo., Kellie and D.J. Thornton, Macomb; two great-grandsons, Keaton Edward Wagner and Logan Matthew Joiner; three brothers, Clorel (Betty) Garrett, Piedmont, Mo., Jack (Rolva) Garrett, Bushnell, and Charles (Marsha) Garrett, Bushnell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter, Becky Strange, two brothers, Joe and Donald Garrett, and one sister, Ivalee.
Kenny moved to Prairie City in April of 1953. He farmed in the Avon area working for Philip Buchen, Lloyd Luper and Frederick Farms, the last being 45 years. He retired from farming in 2000. He worked for the village of Prairie City from 2002 to 2008.
He was a cemetery trustee for the Township of Prairie City.
In recent years he enjoyed going to auctions, playing cards, country music, traveling to Texas, Catfish Bend, and breakfast at Hardee’s
Services were held Monday, March 2, 2009, in the Corman Memorial Home in Avon.
Burial was in the Avon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Prairie City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Corman Memorial Home, Avon, was in charge of arrangements.
