Leta F. Smith
GALESBURG-Mrs. Leta Fern Smith, 94, Galesburg, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, in Heartland Healthcare Center.
She was born Feb. 13, 1915, in St. Mary’s Township, McDonough County, the daughter of Floyd and Mary Alpha (Williams) Keim. She married Lawrence Smith in Peoria County Feb. 10, 1935. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Verla Arbogast and Levata Schoonover, both of Galesburg; a granddaughter who cared for her, Linda (Fred) Sallo; seven grandsons; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Roger L. Smith, one brother, Vivian Keim, and one sister, Dorothy Grandenberg.
She was a homemaker. She worked in housekeeping for OSF St. Mary Medical Center. She also helped with in-home health care.
She was of the Christian faith.
She graduated from Plymouth High School.
She enjoyed rug weaving and gardening.
Graveside services were held Friday, March 6, 2009, in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
