Floyd W. Powell
GILSON-Floyd W. Powell, 71, Galesburg, died at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in rural Gilson. He was born Feb. 6, 1938, in LaSalle, Colo., the son of Raymond and Ruby (Echols) Powell. He married Bonnie Sue Morse Dec. 18, 1959, in Galesburg. He is survived by sons, Lloyd (Mary) Powell, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Luke W. (Connie) Powell, Abingdon; special friend, Jo Ellen Pyle, Galesburg; eight grandchildren, Nathan Powell, Eric Powell, and Andrew Powell, all of Abingdon, Daniel Powell, Galesburg, Jake Powell, Bushnell, Elizabeth Hoium, Caitlin Hoium, and Joe Hoium all of Ottumwa, Iowa; a sister, Shirley Painter of Michigan; and brothers, David (Sandy) Powell, Galesburg, Joy (Bev) Powell of Bushnell and Leroy “Raymond’’ (Alma) Powell, Yates City. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Laverne Powell. He was reared and educated in Galesburg. He served in the United States Navy from Feb. 10, 1955, until Feb. 5, 1959. He was supervisor of the Electrical Division of the city of Galesburg. Cremation rites were accorded. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville, with military rites conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 of Galesburg.
