Jack D. Patch
ABINGDON-Jack D. Patch, 78, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, in the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Galesburg, the son of Leslie and Eunice (Sherwood) Patch. He married Dolly Poulson April 12, 1954, in Galesburg. Dolly preceded him in death Sept. 21, 2006. Jack is survived by his children, Jack D. Patch, Jr., Avon, Michael L. Patch, St. Augustine, John (Rebecca) Patch, Ashdown, Ark., and Teresa (Michael) Ward, Abingdon; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He grew up and attended schools in Colorado. He joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Jack lived most of his adult life in Abingdon and worked at the former OMC Gale Products in Galesburg, retiring in 1974. He later had lived near Prairie City prior to moving to the Care Center of Abingdon. Jack’s main hobby was wood working and he was very dedicated to it. Graveside services, with military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381, were held Sunday, March 8, 2009, in the Wataga Cemetery with Mrs. Eleanor Landon officiating. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
