Kenneth M. Roberts

AVON-Kenneth M. Roberts, 92, Avon, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 4:15 a.m. in the Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.

He was born Sunday, May 7, 1916, in Canton, the son of Oscar and Amy (Rutledge) Roberts. He married Loretta M. Woerley Sept. 4, 1942, in Elcentro, Calif. She preceded him in death Dec. 3, 1994.

He is survived by two daughters, Clarelene (Larry) Marshall, Avon, and Sharelene (Larry) Long, Peoria; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Arthur Roberts, Memphis, Tenn.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Kenneth was born in Canton and reared in the Macomb and Colchester areas. He served in the United States Army during World War II in France and Germany in Company B 633rd TD BN.

He was a tenant farmer and farmed for himself until he was 81 years old. In his early years he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.

Services were held Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Corman Memorial Home in Avon with Father Thomas Halloway officiating.

Burial was in the St. Augustine Cemetery, St. Augustine.
