KEWANEE-Dorothy A. Ruhl, 96, Kewanee, formerly of Altona, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, at McIntire Board and Care Home in Kewanee.

She was born June 15, 1912, in Abingdon, the daughter of William C. and Gertrude (Hooker) Johnson. She married Layo G. Ruhl Jan. 5, 1937, in Abingdon. He preceded her in death Dec. 18, 1992.

Surviving are sons, Donald (Bonnie) Ruhl, Galva, and Richard (Joyce) Ruhl, Galva; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and one daughter, Ann L. Ruhl.

She was reared and educated in Abingdon, graduating from Abingdon High School.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed flowers, family, gardening and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed many crafts, especially crocheting and knitting.

She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church.

Services were held Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida with the Rev. Don Reynolds officiating.

Burial was in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg.
