Shirley Mette Dunn


Shirley Mette Dunn, 78, of Macomb, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.


She was born Oct. 12, 1930, in Eureka to Walter and Kathryn Klopenstein Mette.

She married Phillip Dunn May 25, 1952, in Eureka. He survives.

She is also survived by two daughters, Kathleen Dunn. Walnut Creek, Calif. and Mary (Jack) Icenogle, El Paso; one son, Michael Dunn,

Walnut Creek, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lorretta (Tony) Spencer, Michelle (Samy) Vargas and Katy (Cody) Crouch; six great-grandchildren, Alex Spencer, Justice Spencer, Tucker Spencer, Caleb Vargas, Isabel Vargas

and Bayla Crouch; one great-great-granddaughter, Charlene Crouch, expected in July and one sister, Karen Hudson, Pekin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a graduate of Methodist School of Nursing.

She worked with Dr. Robert Barclay, DDS establishing a preventative dental program and later with Dr. Richard Passmore, DDS.

She has lived in Macomb since 1954 where she was an over 50-year member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, charter member of the MDH Auxiliary and the Macomb Fortnightly Club.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Thomas officiating.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home, Macomb. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church building fund.
