Kathryn Sylvia Farris Thompson Ballard, 88, of Blandinsville, died at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Memorial Hospital, Carthage.

 

She was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Blandinsville to Clarence and Sylvia Bundy Farris.

She married Gerald Conrad Thompson Dec. 17, 1938. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1984.

She later married Roy Ballard April 16, 1988. He also preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Thompson, one son, Don Thompson and her twin brother, Kenneth Farris.

She is survived by one son, Larry Thompson; two daughters, Carolyn Strausbaugh and Janet (Carl) Shipman, 11 grandchildren, Angela Thomason, Daniel (Michelle) Shipman, Darren (Carolann) Shipman, Lucinda Johnson, Tim Thompson, Melinda Williams, Melissa Fischer, Molly Thompson, Matt Thompson, Mark Thompson and Mike Thompson; 23 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; one sister, Margaret (Earl) Vande of Wisconsin and one brother, Robert Farris, Branson, Mo.. She loved them all.

Her family owned the Blandinsville Locker Plant in her younger days. She later worked in the laundry of the Burlington Hospital and the

Magnavox plant in Champaign.

She was an avid golfer for over 50 years.

She was a member of the Blandinsville Baptist Church.

She loved to go uptown to Tinks Cafe and visit with her friends there as well as spend time at the Senior Citizens Center playing cards and enjoying the company there. S

he was a friend to all and always had a smile

and a kind word. She never knew a stranger. She will be extremely missed by her friends and family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home, Blandinsville with the Rev. Dean

Reeverts officiating.

Burial will be in the Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to either the Blandinsville Baptist Church or the Blandinsville Golf Course.
