Eleanor Thomas Crabb


Eleanor Thomas Crabb, 101, of Macomb died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.


She was born Aug. 12, 1907, in Macomb to Walter and Rosa Dorgan Thomas.

 She married Chester Crabb May 26, 1934. He preceded her in death March 13, 1973.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Francis "Sam" Thomas and two nephews, Raymond and Gene Thomas.

She is survived by one sister, Alyce Thomas, Macomb; two nephews, Jack Baldridge and Mike Baldridge, both of California; two nieces, Gabriella Baldridge of California and Heidi Baldridge of Florida and two nephews Jack and Dick Thomas.

She lost her hearing at the age of 3. She attended public schools in Macomb for several years. She then transferred to the Illinois State School for the Deaf in Jacksonville; graduating in 1930.

After graduation she worked tinting pictures at Godfrey Photography Shop.

She and Chester lived on the Crabb farm, north east of Macomb from 1934-1966. At that time they moved into Macomb.

In 1982; she moved into Lafayette Square, where she lived for 27 years.

She was interested in gardening, loved animals and was an ardent St. Louis Cardinals fan. She made friends easily and always had a big smile for them.

She was baptized in St. Paul's Church and has been a member for over 101 years.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at St. Paul's Church with Monsignor Richard Pricco officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery. Memorials be made to St. Paul's Church or Lafayette Square.
