Edwin O. Heise
KEWANEE-Edwin O. Heise, 85, Kewanee, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Kewanee Hospital.
He was born July 23, 1923, in rural Neponset, the son of Walter and Amelia (Munds) Heise. He married Patricia Lingwell March 29, 1958, at the Church of Peace in rural Kewanee. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Marcia (Dennis) Bramlett, Galesburg and Carol (Kent) Lock, Avon; two granddaughters, Marie and Renee Lock; two nieces Marlis (Eliot) Duncan, Jackson, Wis. and Claris (Thomas) Anderson, Geneseo; and a nephew, Ellis Hepner, Billings, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sibling in infancy, and a sister.
He graduated from Neponset High School. He served his country from April 1945 to August 1946 in the Army in the 1573 Engineer special Battalion Unit during World War II, obtaining the rank of T/4 sergeant.
His hobby and passion was working as a dairy farmer in rural Neponset until moving to Kewanee in 1993.
He had been confirmed and baptized at the Church of Peace and was a member of First Congregational Church in Neponset.
He was a member of the Neponset School Board, serving as secretary for nine years, and had been the treasurer for the Neponset township Boards of Directors. He was also a member of ACPE, the Neponset American Legion and the Farm Bureau.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing and reading in his early years, he enjoyed going to the Neponset Public Library and in later years the Kewanee Public Library.
Graveside service and interment were held Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Neponset Township Cemetery in rural Neponset with the Rev. Jerry Rafalko officiating. Military rites were accorded by the Neponset American Legion.
Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society or the Kewanee Food Pantry.
