William L "Bill" McDonald


William L. "Bill" McDonald died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.


He was born Sept. 10, 1922, in McDonough County to Ralph & Lena (Fullmer) McDonald.

He married Audrey C. Lasswell on Feb. 25, 1943, at the Ebenezeer Church Parsonage. She preceded him in death on July 29, 2007.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harris McDonald; one sister, D. Jean McDonald Buffington and one infant sister.

He was survived by two daughters, Peggy McDonald, Virden and Nancy (Frank) Hite, Industry; two sons, Harvey (Donna) McDonald, Macomb and David (Colleen) McDonald, Winfield; nine grandchildren, Catherine, Sarah, William Joseph, Zack, Felicia, Kate, Judd, Jesse and Jason; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerry (Norma) McDonald, Macomb and Everett (Phyllis) McDonald, Key Biscayne, Fla. and one sister, Eloise McMillan, Industry.

He was a lifelong resident of McDonough County.

He served in the Army during WW II and was a member of Macomb Legion Post 6.

He was a church elder at the Bardolph Presbyterian Church.

He devoted his life to his family and his work on the farm as a small grain and livestock farmer. His true passion was for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Schafer officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. 

Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of ashes will be private at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McDonough County Farm Bureau Foundation or McDonough County 4-H.
