John Edward Ahrens
John Edward Ahrens, 77, of Quincy, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the Heartland Health Care Center, Macomb.
He was born Sept. 11, 1931. in Sigourney, Iowa to Dick and Irma (Smith) Ahrens. He married Kate Kindred on June 8, 1951. She survives. He is also survived by six daughters, Marti (Bruce) Wittler, Quincy, Terri (John) Summers, Quincy, Cindy (Joe) Wetzel, Colchester, Linda (Del) Buck, Monroe, Ga., Valli (Jim) Sullivan, Macomb and Randi (Dave) Schwartz, Quincy; three sons, John (Jennifer) Ahrens, Belleville, Kenny (Linda) Ahrens, Celina, Tenn. and Dennis (Sonja) Ahrens, Peoria; one sister, Donna Ahrens of the state of Washington; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bud Ahrens and one sister, Malina Herrick. He served in the Korean War and received five Bronze Service Stars and was awarded the Purple Heart. He coached and played softball and enjoyed camping, woodworking, and fishing. Private family graveside services were conducted at Quincy Memorial Park Cemetery.
