John Patrick "Pat" Ruf


John Patrick "Pat" Ruff, 42, of Somonauk, died shortly before 3 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2009, in West Kendall County.

He was born Friday, March 31, 1967, in Avon. To Ted and Lois Sullivan Ruff.

He is survived by four children, Amber, Peyton, Hannah, and John Emmerson (Jack); his parents, Ted and Lois Ruff, Avon; grandmother Louise Sullivan, Monmouth; three sisters, Kim Corbo, Sleepy Hollow, Kelly Tompkins, Avon, Kathy Boydstun, Galesburg; 5 nieces, 3 nephews, 1 great nephew; and two dogs, Cigar and Rufus.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather and one aunt.

Pat was born and raised in Avon. He graduated from Avon High School in 1985.  He attended Carl Sandburg College where he received his Associate's degree and received a Bachelor's in Political Science and Philosophy at Western Illinois University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in July 1993. He was a Political Consultant for several well-known Democratic candidates both for state and national office. He was a Senior Communications manager for Alliant Energy in Cedar Rapids, Ia., from 2000-2003. He was a Director of Strategic Communications & Campaigns for Advocate Health Care in Oak Brook since 2003. He enjoyed the Cubs. He was a loving and devoted father, raising his four children on his own.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Corman Memorial Home, Avon.

Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009, at Corman Memorial Home.

Burial will be at Avon Cemetery, Avon.

Memorials may be made to Avcom Park and/or an educational fund for his children at Tompkins State Bank, Avon.
