John Patrick “Pat” Ruff


AVON-John Patrick “Pat’’ Ruff, 42, Somonauk, died Monday, June 8, 2009, shortly before 3 p.m. in West Kendall County, Illinois.
He was born Friday, March 31, 1967, in Avon, the son of Ted and Lois (Sullivan) Ruff.
He is survived by four children, Amber, Peyton, Hannah and John Emmerson (Jack); his parents, Ted and Lois Ruff, Avon; grandmother, Louise Sullivan, Monmouth; three sisters, Kim Corbo, Sleepy Hollow, Kelly Tompkins, Avon, Kathy Boydstun, Galesburg; five nieces; three nephews; one great-nephew; and two dogs Cigar and Rufus.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather and one aunt.
Pat was born and reared in Avon. He graduated from Avon High School in 1985. He then attended Carl Sandburg College where he received his Associates degree and received a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy at Western Illinois University where he graduate Magna Cum Laude in July 1993. He was a Political Consultant for several well known Democratic candidates both for State and National office. He was a Senior Communications manager for Alliant Energy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 2000 to 2003. He was a Director of Strategic Communications and Campaigns for Advocate Health Care in Oak Brook since 2003. He enjoyed the Cubs; he was a loving and devoted father raising his four children on his own.
Services were held Saturday, June 12, 2009, in Corman Memorial Home, Avon.
Burial was in the Avon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to AvCom Park and/or an Educational fund for his children at Tompkins State Bank, Avon.
