Verda I. Jennings Sullivan


Verda I. Jennings Sullivan, 93, of Rushville, died at 10:20 p.m., Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital, Rushville.

She was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Holdrege, Neb., to James Steven and Addie Susie (Phillips) Leach. She married William Clifford VanOrder and he preceded her in death September 23, 1950. She later married Herschel Jennings and he preceded her in death May 31, 1971. She then married Gilbert Sullivan on May 29, 1982 in Rushville and he preceded her in death September 16, 1986.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Denver, Eldred, Walter, Jimmy, and Norris Leach; and seven sisters, Nina Burklund, Ruby Hantz, Letha Brinton, Peggy Benson, Agnes Leach and Elvadean Knight.

She is survived by one daughter, Jodie Kepple, Macomb; two grandsons, Michael Kepple, Rushville, and Jeremy Kepple, Macomb; one great-grandson, Morgan Kepple; and several nieces and nephews.

Verda was proud to be a farm wife and also worked at Mickleberry’s in Rushville for many years. She loved flowers, gardening and watching birds. Children were very special to her and in her spare time she enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home, Rushville, with Pastor Mike Cahill officiating.

Burial will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Wood Funeral Home, Rushville.  Memorials may be made to the Schuyler County Ambulance or the Morgan Kepple Education Fund.
