AVON-Maxine Brown, 90, formerly of Avon and Galesburg, died at 4:35 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, in Prairie City Rehab and Healthcare Center.
She was born Sept. 19, 1918, in Prairie City, the daughter of John and Lottie (Smith) Koller. She married Frederick H. Brown, July 4, 1941, in Galesburg. They later divorced.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosalie “Rose” Carlile, Milan and Alberta “ Tina’’ (Fred) Anderson, Avon; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Maxine worked at Blue Bell in Abingdon, Caterpillar in Peoria, and was co-owner of Brown’s Market in Avon for 20 years. She later worked at Brown Lynch Scott, Electrolux and Spiegel in Galesburg. She was manager of the Spiegel store in Des Moines, Iowa, for several years and also was co-owner of two mobile home parks in Des Moines. Upon retirement she returned to Galesburg and was employed at Sears and St. Mary’s Square. She was a volunteer of OSF St. Mary Medical Center. She was a volunteer at OSF St. Mary Medical Center and Cottage Corner. She enjoyed NASCAR and the Chicago Cubs.
Cremation rites were accorded and burial will be at a later date.
Corman Memorial Home, Avon, was in charge of arrangements.
