Duane Watkins

LONDON MILLS-Duane E. “Dewey’’ Watkins, 79, London Mills, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

He was born March 8, 1930, near London Mills, the son of Herschel D. and Jennie (Brown) Watkins. He married Carrol L. Ray, Nov. 11, 1949 in Galesburg. She survives.

He is also survived by four daughters, Jeralyn (Lou) Ohler, Oquawka, Linda (Scot) Hulet, rural Galesburg, Nancy (Bob) Kidwell, London Mills, and Jill (Stu) Barden, Peoria; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Junior “Fuzz’’ (Lena) Watkins, London Mills; and one sister, Rosalie Moore, Galesburg.

Duane retired from Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg. He also farmed and did accounting and income taxes from his home for many years.

Graveside services were held Friday, June 26, 2009, in the Abingdon Cemetery.

In honor of Duane, memorials may be made to the Maci Hulet Foundation, his great-granddaughter.

Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
