Michael Leon Martin


Michael Leon Martin, 62, Edelstein, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born April 16, 1947 in Galesburg to Thornton L. and Dorothy A. (Simonson) Martin. He married Orpha Kaye Brown on June 7, 1980 in Colchester. She survives.
He is also survived by his children, Jamey L. (Christy) Martin, Naperville, Jennifer K. Schneider, Phoenix, Ariz., Jon M. (Rachel) Martin, Washburn, and Joel Casey Martin, Edelstein; eight grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Lynne A. Martin, Galesburg, Susan (Frank) Javorsky, Parkville, Mo., Yale A. (Carol) Martin, Keller, Texas, Rebecca (Bob) Kevoian, Indianapolis, Ind., and Rex A (Margreth) Martin, Wilmette.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He worked for J.A. Fritch and Sons, Inc. He was a member of Local Union #1. Scouting was a big part of his life since 1958. In 1960, he received his Eagle Scout with Vigil Honors. He was a mentor to a lot of boys in Scouting. He was affiliated with Troop #91 of Chillicothe, Troop #69 of Lacon, and Troop #63 of Stronghurst. He loved camping and spending time with his family.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home, Stronghurst.
Burial was at Stronghurst Cemetery.
