Alec John “Al” Distaso
Alec John “Al” Distaso, 60, of Macomb, formerly of Los Angeles, Calif., died at 8:47 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009 at McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.
He was born Dec. 23, 1948 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Biaggio and Geraldine (Green) Distaso of Las Vegas, Nev.
He is survived by his parents, two sons, Douglas (Whitney) Distaso, Arlington, Va., and Brian Distaso, Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Colby and Keira Distaso; one brother, Mark (Espy) Distaso, Acton, Calif.; one sister, Doreen Ware, San Bernardino, Calif.; and a special friend Jane Woerly, Macomb, and her sons Alan and Adam Cale.
He offered camaraderie unconditionally, recognized friendships everywhere and never passed judgment without personally experiencing wrong. He showed us how to treat others without exceptions and no matter the conundrum, charted the ideal solution. He played professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs in 1969 and was in the Army Reserves for 6 years. He retired from the Los Angeles Police Department in 1994 prior to moving to Macomb in 1995. He served the community as an Admissions Manager for the McDonough County Housing Authority. He was a member of the Macomb American Legion Post 6 and Macomb Elks Lodge # 1009 and was an avid golfer.
A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Gold Hills Golf Course Clubhouse.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
