Duane T. Cox
Duane T. Cox, 79, died July 25, 2009, at Solara Hospital, Harlingen, Texas.
He was born May 26, 1930, at St. Francis Hospital, Macomb, to Tilden Powers and Ruth Elizabeth (Wells) Cox.
He is survived by one sister-in-law, Janelle Cox; one niece, Angela (Andy) Stodolkiewicz; one nephew, Aaron (Pamela) Cox; five grandchildren, Casey, Magdalena and Zoe Stodolkiewicz, and Courtney and Megan Cox; his dear friend, Raymundo Capetillo and their loving dog Dandee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Cox
He lived a successful life and pursued many careers. He was born in Macomb and lived near Roseville, graduating from Roseville High School in 1948. He entered the Illinois National Guard, Monmouth Unit, in 1947. He joined the U.S. Air Force where he became an Airman First Class and was active duty from February 1951 to October 1953, after which he remained in the reserves until October 1959.
During his time in the reserves he attended many universities, including Eastern New Mexico, Western Illinois, Oklahoma State, University of Alaska and the University of Illinois, where he graduated n 1957 with a B.S. in Commerce and Law. He was also a part of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.
He worked in the insurance industry in Chicago and Oklahoma City, Okla., retiring in 1985. After he retired, He cared for his mother in Dallas City until she passed away. He then enjoyed the rest of his retirement in Brownsville, Texas. He was involved in several organizations, including Oklahoma City Claims Men Association (member and director), Goodwill Industries of Oklahoma (director and HR committee chair), Oklahoma City Kennel Club (various offices and director), and the Hancock County Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville. Memorials may be made to the Roseville American Legion Post #614.
