Ruth L. Carl
Ruth L. Carl, 101, a resident of the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage, died at 9:07 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the nursing home.
She was born May 26, 1908, in rural Carthage to Cyrus and Daisy (Reno) Cutler. She married Forrest Carl on Sept. 17, 1931. He preceded her in death Feb. 27, 1967.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Kenneth Cutler, and one sister, Leta Ward.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeane (Tom) Langan, Carthage; one son, Robert (Judy) Carl, Carthage; nine grandchildren, Peggy (Bruce) Hayner, Deerfield, Dan (Valerie) Langan, Wauwatosa, Wis., Susan (Stan) Neally, Carthage, Cathy (Ron) Burling, Morris, Beverly (Don) Roth, Manzanillo, Mexico, Tricia (Paul) Burdick, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Robert B. Carl, Quincy, Tiffany (Rodney) Flowers, Carrolton, Heather Carl, St. Louis, Mo.; 22 great-grandchildren; three nieces, Margaret (Carl) Honnold, Casey, Marilyn (Max) Walker, Carthage, and Kay (Larry) Gasperi, Washington.
She grew up on a farm east of Carthage and attended East Union School. She was a graduate of Carthage High School and was a long time member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Carthage. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, golfing, bowling, traveling and going to basketball and football games. She was a member of the Willing Workers (Christian Women’s Fellowship) and the BPW and worked as a Grey Lady at Carthage Memorial Hospital. She volunteered many years for RSVP in Carthage.
Her late husband Forrest was a General Motors auto dealer in Carthage for over 30 years. He also co-owned the T&C Bowling Alley with Sherm Tweedt where She worked in the snack bar for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the First Christian Church, Carthage.
Burial will follow at Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation will be held 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
