John Douglas Simmons


John Douglas "J.D." Simmons, 26, of Fort Madison, Iowa, formerly of Nauvoo, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, in an A.T.V. accident near Canton, Mo.

He was born June 28, 1983, in Keokuk, Iowa, son of Mark and Tina Mason Simmons. He married Cathy "Cat" Bolanos on Nov. 8, 2003, at the Madison Baptist Church in Fort Madison, Iowa. She survives.

He is also survived by one son, Beau Simmons; and one daughter, Cazi Chapman, both of Fort Madison, Iowa; grandparents Linda Nelson, Nauvoo, Sam Mason, Palmyra, Mo., James Elwood (Julie) Simmons, Rock Island, and Mary Whitmarsh, Rapid City; three brothers, Jordon Simmons, Carthage, Cody Hinden, Rock Island, and Andrew Doxsee, Rock Island; four sisters, Kelly (David) Primmer, Hillsboro, NC., Elizabeth Simmons, Rock Island, Elisha Simmons Rock Island, and Elisha Hinden, Rock Island; four nieces and nephews, Emma Primmer, Hillsboro, NC., Conner Primmer, Hillsboro, NC., Addison Simmons, Carthage, and Keisha Hinden, Rock Island; many aunts and uncles including Tami (Scott) Bentzinger, Carthage.

J.D. graduated from Carthage High School, Carthage. He had worked at I.C & E Railroad and was recently employed by Mike’s Tree Service & Landscaping in Fort Madison. He was of the Christian faith. J.D. enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar and shooting pool. He was a very gentle, kind and generous person who will be missed by family and friends. J.D.’s organs were donated to help others.

Family will meet with friends on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, between 10 a.m. and the time of the service at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home, Nauvoo.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home, Nauvoo with Mark Anderson officiating.

Cremation will be held in Burlington, Iowa after the funeral services.

A memorial has been established for J.D’s children’s education fund.
