Kenneth C. Effland
AVON-Kenneth C. Effland, 97, Avon, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 2:45 p.m. in the Prairie City Healthcare and Rehab Center, Prairie City.
He was born June 20, 1912, in Avon, the son of Samuel Guy and Ada Esther (Carpenter) Effland. He married Wenona Butler and then Roline Dowell; they both preceded him in death. He then married Betty Skirvin. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 11 stepchildren; one brother, Clemon Effland, Charleston, Ill.; one sister, Esther Whitsell, Riverside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and two brothers.
Kenneth was born and reared in Ellisville Township where he had lived and farmed his entire life.
He served in the United States Army. He also served in several township public service positions. He was an Angus cattleman and was a lifetime member of the Illinois Angus Association. He enjoyed horses and antique wagons.
He was a great supporter of AvCom Park where he was one of the original people to start the Horse Show, and was a great sponsor. He served as Grand Marshal for Avon’s Memorial Day parade.
Services were held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, in Corman Memorial Home, Avon.
Burial was in the Avon Cemetery where the Legion conducted military rites.
