Gary A. Stambaugh


Gary A. Stambaugh, 62, of Galesburg, died at 9:33 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2009, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born April 24, 1947, in Macomb, the son of Scott and Rosine P. (Markland) Stambaugh. He married Marilyn Johnson on December 29, 1979, in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Michelle Stambaugh, Davenport, Ia., Jane (Kevin) McGee, Galesburg, Debbi Johnson, Galesburg, Donny Johnson, Galesburg, and Susan L. Stambaugh, Macomb; 11 grandchildren, Shay Elston, Ty Johnson, Kyle McGee, Katie McGee, Rob Jackson, Joseph Williams, René Johnson, Brad Johnson, Brian Johnson, Cinaa Benton, and NyRee Benton; three great grandchildren, Hahlay, DeArion, and DeAmiyn Elston; his mother, Rosine Brown, Good Hope; and one brother, Randy Stambaugh.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Chuck and Donnie Stambaugh.

Gary was a line stocker at Maytag for 35 years, retiring in 1999. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1965. He was an excellent cook and also enjoyed spending time with his friends at The Patio and The Roadhouse. Gary loved sports and played football while in high school. He was also a loyal Galesburg Silver Streaks fan. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 in Galesburg and the Monmouth VFW.

Cremation will be accorded.

A gathering of family and friends will be 3 - 5 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Galesburg High School Athletic Booster Club.
